Feeling Drained By Anxiety?

Are you a master overthinker?

Do you find it hard to relax because of constant worry and uncomfortable physical symptoms?

Are what ifs ruling your life?

Do you feel overwhelmed but find it hard to ask for help?

Anxiety affects women at higher rates than men. Many of us regularly work against the clock to get everything done—between taking care of family, going to work, being social, and maintaining extreme beauty standards. It’s exhausting to doubt and second-guess every decision we make, but we tend to be pros in perfectionism anyway.

Do You Suffer From Social Anxiety, Physical Symptoms, Or Panic Attacks?

Anxiety often involves trying to find the ideal solution to every single problem. Even when the outcome has already been determined or is out of our control, we dwell on what could have been or what we can do in the future to avoid making mistakes. Yet, no matter how much we think through each challenge, decision, or interaction, the anxiety always seems to come back.

When we're anxious, it can be hard to stay present and connect with others. Social anxiety is especially tough for women and can make everyday situations feel embarrassing and uncomfortable.

Anxiety isn’t just mental—it often presents as physical symptoms too. Digestive issues, headaches, and fatigue can be symptoms of anxiety. And if you are always sweating, have heart palpitations, or experience feelings of doom, it’s possible that a panic disorder is the cause.

Luckily, anxiety is treatable. Working with a therapist can help you understand the root cause of your anxiety and gain the tools you need to manage it. With some patience, persistence, and practice, you can start to think and feel differently.

Anxiety Is Particularly Common Among Millennial Women

It may come as no surprise that millennials have been named “the anxious generation.” An estimated 12 percent of us live with anxiety—twice as much as boomers. And why wouldn’t we be stressed? We generally live with more societal and financial uncertainties than our parents did.

In addition to outside stressors, we are put under extreme pressure to “do it all” and look flawless in the process. We have to jump through more hurdles as women, especially when it comes to how we appear and behave in the world around us.

For many, anxiety motivates us to be successful and get things done. It may even feel like anxiety has protected us because we are always one step ahead. But living in stress mode is not sustainable; it’s important to figure out when our anxiety is helping us and when it’s hurting us.

When you're dealing with anxiety, self-care can only take you so far. That's where therapy comes in—it's a way to really tackle the problem. Working together in counseling, I can help you interpret your anxiety’s message and learn healthier ways of responding to it.

Anxiety Treatment At Therapy Her Way

Living with anxiety, it’s common to see the world as being strictly black-and-white. I'll help you look at things from a new perspective, which can help you feel more relaxed and less anxious. We'll work on being kinder to yourself, too.

Therapy allows you to understand your thought process, identify triggers, and learn lifelong coping skills. Using the tools you gain in therapy, you can manage fear and uncertainty more effectively.

My Approach

As a therapist specializing in anxiety disorders—including social anxiety and panic attacks—I work with millennial women and teens in treatment. Once I have a strong idea of your anxiety symptoms and goals for therapy, I will tailor my approach to meet your needs.

My counseling style is highly engaged yet warm and friendly. I will validate your feelings and experiences while offering gentle challenges to help you shift your mindset. Constructive feedback will give you an opportunity to create some distance from your thoughts and feelings so you can observe them more clearly.

As you become more self-aware, you will be able to identify when uncomfortable thoughts and sensations are taking over—and what to do to stop them. You will also learn how to create boundaries to help you protect your energy.

Therapy can help you let go of perfectionism, people-pleasing, and other anxiety-related behaviors. Instead of feeling doomed to live with fear, worry, and self-doubt forever, you can learn how to co-exist with and manage your anxiety in a healthy way. By learning your patterns, you can make lasting changes in your life.

Still Unsure If Therapy For Anxiety Can Help You?

Anxiety has been with me for so long, it almost feels like a part of my personality—can counseling really help?

Change is absolutely possible! I realize you may feel like there is no way to escape an anxious mindset, but therapy is a meaningful and lasting way to adjust the relationship between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. As you develop a stronger understanding of your unique anxiety patterns, I will provide you with customized coping skills and help you approach problems differently.

I am not interested in discussing the past; I would rather work with a therapist who can help me deal with current stressors.

Therapy can be solution-oriented and future-focused. However, knowing a little bit about your history will allow me to better understand your experience of anxiety and tailor the treatment process to your unique needs. During the first few sessions, we may spend some time discussing the origins of your symptoms and how they have affected you over the years. After that, we can make therapy as focused on the present and/or future as you’d like.

I’m not into “homework” assignments between sessions.

You aren’t into homework? Me neither! If I give you exercises to do in between sessions, they will be action-oriented and discussed ahead of time in our session. For example, if you are anxious about working through an issue in your relationship, we will collaborate on a plan for how to bring it up and communicate with your partner in a calm, healthy, and effective way. No worksheets here!

Practicing skills outside of the therapy space will help reduce anxiety symptoms in general and the overall time spent in treatment.
